INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Fed stands pat on rates (for now)

The Fed wrapped up its policy meeting yesterday. 

As expected, they didn’t change the interest rates. 

However, the Fed said they are ready to cut the rates if the trade war intensifies. 

The market was happy with the news. And continued its rally. 

The volatility (VIX) declined and we are right back on track.

I’m not chasing stocks higher here but I’m also not going short. 

It’s very likely that the market will make a run at its all-time high. 

Now, let’s talk about gold.

Gold is soaring. It broke through its resistance (1,360).  

It was an impressive move… almost 30 points.

I’m on the sidelines. Watching. And waiting for the right opportunity.

Slack is a team collaboration software tool. 

It’s handy. And many companies use it as their internal messenger.

Slack will start trading on the New York Stock Exchange today. 

And the reference price is set at $26.

But that doesn’t mean that’s where it’ll start trading. 

Slack is not going IPO. It’s a direct listing. 

A direct listing will allow existing shareholders to sell shares. But they are not selling new shares or raising funds.

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) is a frequent contributor to this section. 

On Tuesday, she compared detention facilities at the U.S. boarder to Nazi “concentration camps.”

And she drew a lot of criticism. 

Even CNN stepped in and said AOC has gone “across the line.”

CNN’s John Avalon added:

    “It’s not that hard to apologize. She should do it. It’s unacceptable.”

Kevin McCarthy (House Minority Leader) also said she should apologize.

Her response? 

She said she would never apologize. 

But guess who has her back (again)?

Nancy Pelosi.

Pelosi refused to condemn those statements. 

The conclusion?

AOC = All Out Crazy

TRUMP IS WINNING

President Trump’s Orlando reelection rally was a huge success.

He raised $24.8 million in less than 24 hours… 

And the total was more than $30 million in two days. 

The Republican National Committee reported he’s on track to his best fundraising quarter since he became president.

To put things in perspective. In 2016, Sen. Bernie Sanders brought in $6.5 million in the 24 hours after the New Hampshire polls. At the time, it was a single-day record for his bid.

President Trump is off to a great start. And his reelection operation is financially dominating the Democratic primary candidates.

And he asked the crowd to vote the tagline.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Market moves higher but…

Market moved passed its resistance of 2,900. 

Why?

President Trump called President Xi. And it was confirmed they will meet at G20 at the end of the month. 

The Fed announcement is today at 2pm. There were rumors yesterday White House is looking to remove Powell. 

Trump Asked White House Lawyers for Options on Removing Powell

White House denied the rumors. 

Fake News? Probably. Moving on. 

Market looks strong but I do have a concern about the rally. 

VIX (volatility index) was unchanged yesterday. And that’s very unusual when the S&P 500 is up over 30 points in one day. 

It could be a warning side the rally will fade over the next few days. 

Let’s wait and see.

Broadway play ‘Hillary and Clinton’ will shut down early… 

Why? 

Low ticket sales. 

Ouch. 

On the other hand, President Trump received 100,000 ticket requests to a 20,000 seat venue. And he packed the house and the outside. Heat and humidity… 

But it doesn’t matter. No one is worried about the discomfort!

I was going to make a Hillary joke but I’m afraid my car is gonna blow-up any moment now and then my death ruled a suicide.

But I understand why the polls show President Trump is down…

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – All eyes on the Fed

I doubt we’ll see a major rally today.

Why?

The Fed announcement is on Wednesday afternoon (FOMC meeting).

It will be important. President Trump is not happy with them. And Fed has done a lot of flip-flopping over the last year.

However, it seems like energy is building (for a move higher).

And the FOMC announcement could be the catalyst.

Am I betting on it?

I’m not. I’m sitting in cash – quite comfortably.

I used to love “exciting” trades which meant I was early, I was down, and I held (and prayed) for the positions to turn around.

I had FOMO – fear of missing out.

The anxiety over missing big trades is very real.

And it usually – or really, almost always – led to big mistakes and big losses.

But over time and with experience it slowly faded away.

Now, I feel no stress. No pressure.

Remember that CASH is also a position.

And online shopping is much cheaper than forcing trades!

Slack is set to go public later this week.

But it’s not a traditional IPO.

In fact, it’s a direct listing.

Here are three differences between direct listing and an IPO:

1.      No underwriters
2.      No cash
3.      No roadshow

In other words, direct listing is cheaper, faster and allows early investors to sell.

   Dollars.

Meanwhile, no one has EVER made any outlandish claims about President Trump…

The rally is in Orlando, Florida.

And it will break records.

President Trump said the campaign received over 100,000 ticket requests.

And the arena sits ‘only’ 20,000.

The kick off is at 10am.

But Trump supporters started lining up 40 hours earlier…

My friend lives in Orlando. And he told me he saw a monster truck driving down I-4 flying a giant American flag and giant “Trump 2020” flag…

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Bitcoin > $9,000 

It was a busy weekend for cryptos.

Bitcoin soared above $9,000 for the first time since May 10, 2018.

Why?

Take a look at the volume spike…  

Bitcoin volume is significantly above its previous peaks.

But there is more to it (I think…).

A cryptocurrency asset manager (Bitwise) told SEC bitcoin trading volume is significantly “overstated” by “fake” trading. Exchanges are reporting volume that never took place. And the real volume is only around 5% of the reported total. 

That’s a HUGE overstatement if it’s true… 

Now, let’s take a look at the Bitcoin futures.

$12 billion traded on future exchanges (CME and CBOE) in May vs. $5.5 billion in April.

That’s a significant increase.

The point?

Crypto exchanges are overstating the volume. And people are understating the importance of Bitcoin futures…

I think we are seeing institutional buying.

And this isn’t another December 2017 when retail investors drove the price to $20,000.

We might be at the beginning of another big rally.

And “this time may be different” in a good way…

Could Bitcoin hit $50,000?

Who is the world’s most valuable AI company?

Take a look at a research study by CB Insights… 

Chinese company called Bytedance  is valued at $75 billion for news curation and an app to create 15-second viral videos.

That’s interesting. But  I don’t think big investors are putting their money in these types of companies.

According to Andrew Byrnes (investment director at a VC firm focused on AI), the real value is in startups that are taking “data-driven approaches to problems specific to unique industries.”

President Trump was ABC’s “This Week”. And he talked about the Spygate scandal (FBI agents working against President Trump).

The host asked him: “Do you think President Obama was behind it?”

President Trump responded: “I would say that he certainly must have known about it because it went very high up in the chain… I would say that President Obama had to know about it.”

But I think it goes much deeper… 

Hillary knew, DNC knew, DOJ knew, FBI knew, CIA knew… 

The question is who didn’t know?

And the answer is simple.

The American people…

Last night, out of nowhere, I got a call from a friend.

I haven’t talked to him in a while (feels like ages).

He’s very smart. And when you meet him, you can instantly tell he “gets it.”

Let’s call him Michael Fury.

Where does he live?

Wall Street… he’s one of the insiders.

I had a great conversation with him. And I’m going to see him in New York next week.

He has great investment ideas.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Market choppiness… yawn, ZZZZZZZZZ.

As advertised, the stock market is stuck in the same trading range.

The range is between 2,873 and 2,900.

And I think it will probably stay in that range until Wednesday.

Why?

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) is meeting on Wednesday.  

And they will talk about their outlook and policy decision.

Historically, this is what generally happens:

The market declines on Monday ahead of FOMC.

And then rallies on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Of course, there is no guarantee it will happen this time. But it’s something I keep in mind.

Gold and silver keep blasting higher. But the sector is reaching overbought levels.

And we are approaching a seasonally week period for the metals.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to get into gold right now…

Facebook got dumped… from the S&P ESG index.

It’s an index that tracks companies with good environmental, social and governance policies.

Why?

Privacy concerns. And lack of transparency.

In other news, Facebook is planning a big announcement next week.

On June 18, Facebook will reveal their own cryptocurrency – Libra.

They have big backers including Visa, MasterCard, PayPal and Uber.

Libra is expected to act as a “stablecoin”.

It means it will be tied to government issued currencies. And it won’t be very volatile.

Here is my question:

Will I get banned by Facebook if I use Libra to buy a MAGA hat?

Yes – you will get banned    OR    No – you will be fine

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio (Democratic presidential candidate) was on MSNBC.

And he said President Donald Trump committed treason when he said he would accept “dirt” on political opponents from foreign countries.

He added, that’s the last straw. They should begin impeachment proceedings.

Democrats are ratcheting up the hate.

And the Corrupt Media is on their side.

Let me guess what’s next…

According to Civiqs DailyKos poll, Republicans are supportive of the tariffs.

In fact, 69% of Republicans voted tariffs are good for the U.S. economy.

And seven-in-ten Republican voters said tariffs imposed on China help the economy.

Simple… they were lying about being republicans {grin}.

And I don’t see any heavy selling pressure.

I still think we could drift lower over the next few days.

But, it is starting to look we might be setting up for another rally.

Will we see new all-time highs?

I’m not sure. It’s too early to tell.

It comes as Google faces greater government scrutiny.

According to lobbying filings, Google is the largest spender on lobbying among U.S. corporations…

Rep. Ilhan Omar (Democrat) ignores requests for tax returns…

She committed several campaign finance violations.

The violations were using campaign funds for personal matters.

But that’s not all.

The Associated Press has confirmed she filed a joint tax return with one man while being legally married to another…

Hmmm… there is a lot going on here…

But about month ago, she had no issues with asking for President Trump’s tax returns:

Import prices are falling.

Take a look…  

What does that mean?

The prices of imported goods fell in May even as tariffs on China increased.

Let’s dig deeper.

Prices of imported Chinese products are down 0.1 percent in May. And they are down 1.4 percent from a year ago.

Another interesting point:

Imports from Asian countries outside of China also fell in price…

That means companies who shifted production out of China are not paying higher prices.

And if it’s true, it could undermine the assumptions behind claims that tariffs would drive up prices for U.S. consumers…

If one country (China) has tariffs and other countries don’t, it does seem obvious China would become less competitive.

I asked around and heard from people who run companies heavily relied upon imports from China.

Are they worried?

Not at all… many of them went to China and told them to “eat” the tariff increase or they’ll move their production elsewhere.

The answer was obvious… Chinese agreed…

S&P chopped back and forth all day yesterday.

I didn’t see increased selling pressure.

But if selling pressure kicks in, it’s possible the market can test 2,850.

Traders seem to be looking for spots at which to put fresh money to work.

I expect more choppiness ahead.

Oil is up 3% overnight on news. Take a look…

Oil prices also typically rise as we head into Independence Day holiday. 

I’m still long the VIX (VXX calls) and I picked up some Facebook puts.

I expect Facebook will be hit with negative headlines over the next few days.

According to WSJ, CEO Mark Zuckerberg knew about the questionable privacy practices.

Why?

Because he has nothing else to hang on to.

The data shows that the current US economic expansion is the longest on record.

It began in mid-2009.

And it was powered by monetary policies coupled with accelerating advances in new technologies.

And it was given another boost with deregulation and tax cuts.

U.S. unemployment rate is at 3.6%. And GDP growth rate is above 3%.

President Trump’s economy continues to soar to a new high.

And everybody agrees:

I had no idea what to expect (he’s in lower school).

The song is called “Rolex”. And it’s a rap song…

The lyrics go something like this…

I think he got that from school. I wonder what he’s doing there every day…

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Trading Psychology

S&P opened higher yesterday morning. And then reversed its gains.

But I didn’t see heavy selling. And I expect more choppiness ahead.

Yesterday, I talked about buying VIX (volatility index) calls. And I picked up some.

I’ll let you know how it plays out.

Now let’s talk about trader psychology.

When I first started trading, I wanted to trade every stock.

It was mentally exhausting. It wasn’t systematic. And I ended up missing the important trades.

Each day I battled against fear of missing out, greed, envy and a plethora of other anxieties.

I saw other traders make a lot of money.

Where?

Instagram, Facebook, Twitter… everywhere you look.

And for a second, I believed it’s possible.

Without any hard work or discipline.

I took the Blue Pill…

And there’s nothing wrong with that. It’s what the 99% choose to do every day.

The problem?

It doesn’t work. And I learned the hard way.

It took me a long time to become consistent. And generate nice side income.

But if you’re willing to put the time in, the rewards will be DRAMATIC.

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Former Vice President Joe Biden made a new campaign promise.

He said: If I’m elected president you’re gonna see the single most important thing that changes America, we’re gonna cure cancer.”

Noble idea. And I hope we do cure cancer.

But imagine what would happen if President Trump said that.

These would be the headlines:

“Trump puts thousands of health care workers out of work.”

Back to Biden. 

He said “only if I I’m elected”.

Will he keep the cure to himself if he doesn’t?

Small business optimism is soaring.

It hit its seven-month high in May.

The National Federation of Independent Business said they see improved views of the economy, employment, capital outlays and sales.

And nearly 75% of small businesses reported hiring in May.

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Market Rally Continues… But Will It Last? 

Yesterday, I talked about S&P’s resistance at 2,900.

And by the end of the day, the S&P touched it – even crossed it by a few points.
 
But the index couldn’t hold on to its gains. It pulled back and closed at 2,887.

What’s next?

Honestly, I can argue both side (bullish and bearish).

But I think bears have an edge.

How can you play it?

I was looking at the VIX (stock market’s “fear gauge”).

And I like what I see. VIX is poised for a move higher.

I will be looking to go long VIX.

How?

I usually trade the options VXX. And I will grab some tomorrow.

Do you like to chat about cars on Facebook?

Well, I have bad news for you.

It looks like Facebook is removing the word “honk” from its platform.

Take a look at the screenshot I found:

Social media was supposed to connect us all. And it has. For better or worse.

But their agenda has changed. And now they focus on pushing the radical left ideologies.

Examples:

Facebook banned Natural News over the weekend. The site had 2.5 million followers.

Why?

The Daily Beast (liberal website) published a negative article about the owner, Mike Adams.

And last month, Facebook banned conservative commentators like Paul Joseph Watson for unknown reasons. 

This all makes me want to say “Honk! Honk!”.

Reply Honk if you don’t like Facebook’s censorship.  

TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME

Left-wing actor Alec Baldwin said he’s ‘so done’ playing President Trump.

I got excited.

Why?

Because Saturday Night Live turned into vicious Trump bashing instead of comedy.

Once the news spread on social media, Baldwin back-paddled.

But he didn’t stop there.

He bought White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, into the mix, smearing her as a “mouthpiece for fascism.”

It’s not clear if he’s really done.  

But I don’t care. I don’t watch the show anyway.

Just another angry liberal… let’s move on.

Hiring hits record high.

Take a look at April. The number of people hired rose to 5.9 million.

That’s an all-time high since the Labor department began tracking it.

Openings (7.4m) are greater than unemployed people (5.8m).

And the manufacturing sector is not showing any signs of “trade war” stress.

Thank you President Trump!

Thank God it’s Monday!

I’m ready to get back to work and to the gym.

I’ve lost 13 pounds in 4 weeks. But Dragon Lady won’t cut me any slack.

She sent me new workout and meal plans this weekend.  

But I think Dragon Lady is confused… she thinks I’m training for the Olympics.

Because the workouts are getting harder and harder…

And I think I’ll need to cook all day to eat everything on the meal plan.

But I guess she’s the professional and I need to get with program.

Now, let’s talk about the stock market. 

INVESTOR INSIGHTS – Is a market pullback around the corner?   

The stock market continues to be overbought.

But that by itself is not a reason to be bearish (yet).

Why?

Because overbought conditions can become MORE overbought.

And you can’t just short into a strong rally.

You have to be patient. And disciplined.

And wait for the right trigger… if you want to profit during the next pullback.

I’ll be watching the stock market action very closely this week.

And I’ll let you know if I see any opportunities.

The resistance is now at 2,900.

And since it’s a round number, it will be interesting to see if it holds.

Presidential hopeful Beto O’Rourke was on TV.

He said President Trump committed crimes.

And if he wins, he would direct his Justice Department to prosecute Trump.

I looked up the word “Beto” in the urban dictionary.

Here are the definitions I found:

 – Annoyance at its best.

 – Craziness defined.

 – Lucky Bastard.

It makes perfect sense now…

All I can say is in the good ole days, a crime had to be committed before you could prosecute…
