Today is Small Business Saturday, so make sure that you show some love to the local and small businesses that you rely on every day!

And while there’s nothing trivial about Small Business Saturday, it is still time for our regular trivia question of the day:

On this day in 1914, the New York Stock Exchange opened after a closure that spanned _____ months.

Think you know the answer? You can read through and check to see if you got it right down at the bottom of this edition.

How to protect against rogue financial advisors

Matthew Piercey, who is alleged to have run a Ponzi scheme totaling $35 million, last week tried to flee from the FBI on a “sea scooter to hide in the waters of Lake Shasta for nearly 30 minutes.”

Then there’s Marcus Schrenker, who ten years ago parachuted from a plane he crashed and fled on a motorcycle, after he was accused of stealing $1.5 million.

And Bernie Madoff, behind history’s biggest Ponzi scheme, is in jail with a 150-year sentence.

Have you ever worried that you, too, could encounter a financial advisor gone rogue, and find yourself cheated out of your hard-earned money?

If so, you’re not alone, and there are are action steps you can take to protect yourself and your money. What are they?

This is how Small Business Saturday will pan out this year

Today is Small Business Saturday, and many business owners hope sales will help offset some of the revenue they’ve lost during the pandemic. However, a recent survey indicates that 43% of consumers do not plan to spend as much this year, and a mere 6% of respondents will allocate that money for Small Business Saturday.

“It could be devastating for small businesses who rely on this blockbuster sales event,” one research scientist involved in the survey said.

A different study indicated that about 75% of small business owners are relying on the holiday season in order to stay afloat next year.

But how are consumers going to be shopping today? Will it be enough? And how can these small businesses take more steps to increase sales, even now?

Hey there, Bullets Fans –

Your Morning Bullets Brief Updates are here!

Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. We wanted to start your Black Friday with this trivia question, and then we’re going to sweeten the pot with a very special offer from Josh Martinez and Traders Agency…

Did you know that Black Friday was a day in history when gold prices plummeted? In what year did this happen, triggered a stock market decline?

Think you’ve got the answer? You can check it in the closing area down below!

Morning Bullets - What's happening in the markets today

The combination of positive vaccine news and increased clarity on the political front pushed stock futures ahead this morning, with Dow and S&P 500 futures up 0.2%. The Nasdaq 100 futures climbed 0.4%. All indexes were tracking for gains this week before today’s abbreviated session.

The market will close at 1 p.m. this afternoon.

In anticipation of Black Friday sales, shares of Amazon, Gap, Shopify, Walmart, and Nordstrom all increased in premarket trading.

This morning’s gains contribute to a positive month for all the major indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is set to break a record it set in 1987.

This is one of my favorite videos from Josh Martinez. And it really exemplifies what sets Traders Agency apart.

With Traders Agency, there’s a great balance of both technical and practical trading tips and advice.

And in this one, Josh shares how not to be a loser when you trade.

Which doesn’t mean you’ll never “lose” a trade – just that you’ll break the habit of bad decision making when you trade.

One thing that sets successful traders apart from the rest is that they often follow a strict set of trading rules and guidelines religiously, no matter how the trade is going.

Watch this video from start to finish if you want to master the art of not being a trading loser, but instead want a trading winner.

Hey there, Bullets Fans –

First of all – a HUGE Happy Thanksgiving to each and every one of you. I pray that you all have a wonderful time with family members, eating great food, and making even better memories.

Thanks for tuning in on a holiday when the markets are closed. I’ve still got some great news to go over with you, but you’re going to get a break – I’m only sending out one newsletter today.

And, in the spirit of getting ready for what will likely be heated discussions around the Frost family Thanksgiving table, I’m practicing NOT going in 100% on politics. So, hopefully, you guys don’t mind being my guinea pigs and getting a dose of news and headlines you probably wouldn’t expect to see from me.

So, I hope you enjoy!

Say so long to The Office

Well, I might have been a little misleading with my intro. Because this one is starting off on a low note.

But, at least it’s not political, right?

When you’re done binging on your turkey and pumpkin pie, you might want to set aside some extra time over the coming weeks to binge all of your favorite episodes of the office.

Because as of December 31, The Office will no longer be streaming on Netflix.

If you stuck around after the last time everybody bailed over Cuties, this could be the final straw.

I know it is for the Frost family.

Because we can all use a little more good news.

And in this story, Rocky, the tiny owl that captured the hearts of Americans from coast to coast, makes her return back to the wild.

It has now been two days since Rocky took flight and made her way back home.

“Rocky’s release was a success!” the center said in a Facebook post on Tuesday. “She is a tough little bird and we’re happy to see her back in her natural habitat.”

How much do you know about gold futures?

“An ounce of gold costs 67.8% more today than it did five years ago, in November 2015. On January 1st, only ten months ago, gold prices closed at $1,519 per ounce. Today, an ounce sells for over $1,900 on the London bullion market.”

And that facts was written on October 9 of this year – so it’s already a little out of date.

Here’s why trading gold futures can be much more lucrative than buying physical gold…

Morning Bullets - 5 Things You Need to Know

It seemed the market was poised for a breather this morning, after a record-breaking day yesterday, when the Dow Jones Industrial Average broke 30,000 for the first time, and the S&P 500 saw a high at closing.

This morning, Dow futures were down .1%, while S&P 500 futures were flat and Nasdaq 100 futures had a .3% gain. Investors are anticipating minutes from a meeting of the Federal Reserve and the weekly jobless claims data.

And mortgage refinancing is up 5% this week, as new interest rates capture homeowner attention. More people are applying to buy a home, too, with applications increasing 4%.

Meanwhile, GE says there could be more job losses in the future and Gap stock sunk almost 10% after the company’s earnings report fell short of expectations.

Dow futures indicated 300 points in gains this morning, following news that the Trump administration would allocate funding to support Joe Biden’s transition into office, Biden’s Treasury Secretary pick, and AstraZeneca’s promising vaccine results.

Although President Donald Trump initially tweeted that he approved of the General Services Administration chief’s letter to Biden, he later added this:

“What does GSA being allowed to preliminarily work with the Dems have to do with continuing to pursue our various cases on what will go down as the most corrupt election in American political history? We are moving full speed ahead. Will never concede to fake ballots & ‘Dominion.’”

Meanwhile, General Motors is signaling that it wants to work with Biden on climate change, and the virus cases on Monday crossed another milestone when it comes to the seven-day average of new cases.

Though virus infections are higher than they ever have been, totaling 196,004 new cases on Friday alone, investors are continuing to keep their focus on the positive news around the vaccine, instead.

The news bolstered stock futures this morning, after the Dow Jones Industrial Average last week was down for the first time in almost a month.

How weird will Black Friday be this year?

If you’re used to long lines and bustling crowds as you attempt to snag steals at your favorite stores on Black Friday, this year will likely feel…well, weird.

With the number of infections increasing, the very thought of entering a mall is enough to induce anxiety in some. And that fear means that more people are planning to shop virtually, instead of in person.

About 61% of shoppers plan to make their purchases online this year, compared to 54% who plan to brave the stores, according to a Deloitte survey. This year marks the first time in the survey’s history that the majority of respondents plan to experience Black Friday at home.

How else will this year’s most famous week for shopping and sales look different?

Why you should prepare for Q1 GDP to decline

Although Wall Street had been optimistic that the first quarter would be on the up and up, economists at JPMorgan believe that the opposite is so.

“This winter will be grim, and we believe the economy will contract again in 1Q,” they said.

They predict that the contraction will be about 1% in size, followed by growth of 4.5% and then 6.5% in the quarters to follow.

Their analysis is based on the continued pandemic and the restrictions associated with it.

“We think the trends in the labor market should roughly follow what we expect for consumer spending–job growth should weaken noticeably around the turn of the year as the virus weighs on the economy, and then pick up again early next year once vaccine distribution eases virus concerns and fiscal support boosts growth,” economists said.

What other factors are they basing this forecast on?

What you need to know about this lawmaker who ate raw fish

After a virus outbreak in a Sri Lankan fish market, sales have dropped exponentially, leading a former fisheries minister to take a bite out of a raw fish at a news conference.

“I brought this fish to show you,” said Dilip Wedaarachchi. “I am making an appeal to the people of this country to eat this fish. Don’t be afraid. You will not get infected by the [virus].”

After the outbreak, which sparked thousands of cases of the virus, the price of fish plummeted, as “tens of thousands of tonnes…have been left unsold.”

Prior to the infection surge, fish had been a staple of the Sri Lankan diet.

“Our people who are in the fisheries industry cannot sell their fish. People of this country are not eating fish,” said Wedaarachchi.

The stock market looked like it was in for a mixed open this morning, as the record virus cases compete with vaccine news for investor attention.

Yesterday, the U.S. again hit a record-breaking number of infections when it recorded 187,883 cases.

Meanwhile Pfizer and BioNTech will seek emergency use authorization for their vaccine, a process that could last weeks. The World Health Organization has told doctors not to treat patients with remdesivir, saying there was “no evidence” that it works.

And the CDC is asking Americans to cancel their traveling plans this Thanksgiving to prioritize safety.

It looks like more bad news to start the day for the Dow, as futures indicate more losses this morning. Despite continued good news on the vaccine front, Wall Street is focusing more on the spiking virus cases across the country.

There have now been more than 250,000 deaths tied to the pandemic, with yesterday’s toll passing 1,800. Yesterday, there were more than 170,000 new cases recorded. So far, there have been more than 11.5 million instances of the virus in the U.S.

When the pandemic began, fragrance was hit hard, harder than any other department of the beauty industry. Perfume is not something you would necessarily buy online without testing, and the virus has even stripped some of their ability to smell –a symptom known as anosmia– or it has created a sensation where nothing smells good –called parosmia.

It is no wonder sales sunk so low.

For some though, fragrance has become a way to remember happy moments, or experience different places, when they are stuck at home.

“Now that our world looks and feels very different, we are questioning what’s truly important to us and what makes us happy,” said Christopher Yu of perfume house Ostens. “It means we want to surround ourselves with products that make us feel secure.”

What perfumes and candles are used to create that sense of security?
