Dear eMBers,
INVESTOR INSIGHTS – The Fed
The FOMC announcement sparked volatility yesterday.
The S&P 500 ended the day down 33 points, a 1.1% decline.
Why?
Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell hinted Wednesday’s rate cut was not the start of a trend.
The central bank cut the interest rates for the first since the financial crisis more than 10 years ago.
But Powell clarified that the Fed’s rate cut was a “midcycle adjustment,” not necessarily the start of a lengthy cutting cycle. He cited “global developments ” along with “muted inflation” as reasons for cutting the overnight lending rate by 25 basis points.
Investors hoped the Fed would be more aggressive and expected Powell to talk about future rate cuts.
We might get additional selling pressure at the open tomorrow.
But I think things will turn around and S&P will continue higher.
YOUR SILICON VALLEY (LIBERAL) OVERLORDS
The Boring Company is one of Elon Musk’s companies.
And they just raised $120m for the tunnel-digging project he dreamt up while sitting in Los Angeles traffic back in 2016.
Musk has pursued a number of deals for The Boring Company. The most successful so far is an underground “people mover” called the LVCC Loop.
It will stretch underneath the Las Vegas Convention Center, and feature three stations and a separate pedestrian tunnel.
TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME
A-listers are on their way to Google Summer Camp to talk about saving Mother Earth.
The list includes President Barack Obama, Prince Harry, Leonardo DiCaprio and Katy Perry (to name a few).
Yachts and private jets.
And the three-day summer camp will cost roughly $20 million, sources said.
The reality is this: “Yachts for them, carbon taxes for you”
