After Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot denied white reporter Thomas Catenacci an interview, the Daily Caller News Foundation filed a lawsuit alongside Judicial Watch.
At the beginning of May, Lightfoot said that she would talk one-on-one with “black or brown journalists” exclusively, and has not spoken to any white reporters since that time.
“It’s absurd that an elected official believes she can discriminate on the basis of race,” said Ethan Barton, who is the DCNF editor-in-chief. “Mayor Lightfoot’s decision is clearly blocking press freedom through racial discrimination.”
The president of Judicial Watch echoed that sentiment, adding: “Racial discrimination has no place in America, especially in the halls of government. Mayor Lightfoot’s admitted policy of race-based discrimination is flagrantly illegal and immoral. Simply put, we’re asking the court to find Mayor Lightfoot’s racist abuse unlawful.”
