Thursday saw stock futures slide, even after the three major benchmarks recorded meager gains yesterday. This morning, investors are anticipating the release of three key reports, which will further illuminate the economic picture.
Initial jobless claims are expected to dip to 425,000 last week—even lower than the 444,000 recorded in the prior week. And the first-quarter Gross Domestic Product is set to be revised slightly higher. Finally, the April durable goods orders report will also likely show an increase.
And it looks like shares of GameStop and AMC Entertainment will take a breather today, even after these names soared 16% and 19% yesterday, respectively.
In Washington, the Big Bank CEOs will continue their testimonies on Capitol Hill, after yesterday’s hearing saw Senator Elizabeth Warren grill Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase.
And President Joe Biden has asked for a more comprehensive review of the pandemic’s origins.

A ninth victim has died after a mass shooting in a San Jose rail yard yesterday. The workers who lost their lives will be honored in a vigil tonight after the nation’s 232nd mass shooting in 2021.
A mass shooting is logged as such when four people are gunned down, officials say.
The shooter in this instance apparently took his own life, and Mayor Sam Liccardo said that “the victims and all the colleagues knew the shooter well.”
The incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. yesterday, Pacific time.
“I know for sure that when the suspect knew the law enforcement was there, he took his own life, our deputies were right there at that time,” said a sheriff for Santa Clara County.
