The chief financial officer of the Trump Organization will likely be indicted this afternoon over alleged tax evasion, authorities say.

Allen Weisselberg surrendered to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office early this morning with his lawyer, Mary Mulligan.

“Allen Weisselberg is a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather who has worked at the Trump Organization for 48 years. He is now being used by the Manhattan district attorney as a pawn in a scorched earth attempt to harm the former president,” a company spokesperson said. “The district attorney is bringing a criminal prosecution involving employee benefits that neither the IRS nor any other District Attorney would ever think of bringing… This is not justice; this is politics.”

Thursday marks the first day of July, and of a new quarter on Wall Street, and futures ticked slightly higher ahead of that clean slate. This morning’s gains follow increases for both the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S&P 500. The Nasdaq Composite, however, drifted downward yesterday.

As June, and the first half of 2021, drew to a close, each of the three major benchmarks were up for the year. The S&P 500, for instance, logged a 14.4% increase, while both the Dow and Nasdaq climbed over 12%.

For June, however, the Dow fell considerably while the other two averages made gains.

The world’s largest digital currency also had a disappointing start to 2021, registering a loss of nearly 50%.

Analysts are expecting last week’s initial jobless claims data to improve, with new filings falling beneath 400,000 for the first time in weeks.
