Donald Trump will not be charged with any crimes, his attorney says

Former President Donald Trump will not face charges related to reported “hush money” payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, his attorney says. He also will not be charged for supposedly changing property values, Ronald Fischetti reported.

The lawyer had contacted Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance last week to get a feel for what was on the horizon for his client. He was told that Trump Organization executives will deal with only minor potential charges related to taxes.

This news seems to contradict the much more severe claims made by Letitia James, the state’s attorney general. Last month, she announced that she would coordinate a criminal probe into the Trump Organization, alongside Vance.

“We have informed the Trump Organization that our investigation into the Organization is no longer purely civil in nature,” she had said in a statement. “We are now actively investigating the Trump Organization in a criminal capacity, along with the Manhattan DA.”

But after Fischetti spoke with Vance, he compared the investigation to “the Shakespeare play Much Ado About Nothing.”

“This is so small that I can’t believe I’m going to have to try a case like this,” he said.

The top market headlines you need to know this morning

A glimpse of United's new jetliners

The stock market was relatively muted on Tuesday, following Facebook’s first-ever $1 trillion closing. The social media giant increased 4% yesterday after winning an antitrust case, and the surging market value buoyed other tech stocks.

This morning, United Airlines announced that it would buy nearly 300 new jets from Boeing and Airbus, the company’s largest order ever. The move will also support the addition of 25,000 new jobs.

Several banks also revealed that they would be increasing their dividends, with Morgan Stanley and Wells Fargo doubling theirs.

And finally, the president hits the road with his new bipartisan infrastructure deal, hoping to sell the $973 billion package as a sign that America “can function, we can deliver… We can do significant things [and] show that America is back.”

Fishermen discover 20 people dead on a boat drifting toward Turks and Caicos

Fishermen made a disturbing discovery late last week that sparked an investigation into the deaths of several people.

A boat with 20 dead passengers was seen approximately a mile away from Grand Turk island, according to authorities. Two children were among the deceased.

Officials from the Turks and Caicos Islands said that they do not suspect foul play, but were not able to provide additional details regarding the cause of the deaths. They also did not yet know where the boat was headed, or where the travelers hailed from.

The marine branch of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force transported the boat to land.

“My investigators are working to establish their identities and how they met their death,” said commissioner Trevor Botting.

He believes the group originated outside of the Caribbean.

Why cash will be at the center of the next crisis

Recommended Link:

Are you the kind of investor who wants to cash out whenever the market gets hinky?

By “hinky,” I mean too high. Too volatile. Too far out of line with the normal P/E ratios and other key metrics.

I can’t blame you if you want to run to cash. It sometimes makes good sense.

Cash not only gives you a feeling of safety and security, but it also provides you with investment capital to use when the market bottoms out. As the old saying goes,

“Nobody ever went broke taking a profit.”

But this time is different.

Because when the next crisis comes — and I believe it’s coming soon! — cash will be at the center of the storm.

Until you watch it here, do yourself a favor: Don’t rely on the “safety” of cash.

Futures indicated a mixed open to start the week, as investors awaited the end of the second quarter this week. So far this year, the S&P 500 has logged a 14% gain, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 12.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 11.4%.

The government is slated to release its latest look at jobs data this Friday, with analysts anticipating that approximately 683,000 payrolls were added in June. The unemployment rate is expected to dip to 5.7%.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s infrastructure bill seems to be regaining forward momentum. Republican Senator Rob Portman said yesterday that he supports the bipartisan deal.

And the latest movie in the Fast and Furious series topped $70 million in ticket sales this weekend — more than any other movie released after the pandemic.

One person is dead and ten are injured in this massive Florida condo collapse

A 12-story condominium in South Florida partially collapsed into a pile of rubble early this morning, killing at least one resident. Authorities have deployed over 80 units in an effort to pluck other survivors from the debris.

Cars as far as two blocks away from the wreck are coated in dust, and a minimum of ten people are injured.

“The building has literally pancaked,” said the town’s mayor, Charles Burkett. “It has gone down, and I mean there’s just feet in between stories where there was 10 feet. That is heartbreaking because it doesn’t mean to me that we’re gonna be as successful as we would want to be to find people alive.”

The town’s police sergeant said he wants residents to stay out of the area as the search and rescue effort continues. The cause of the collapse remains unclear.
